Mattoon trio bolsters Lake Land softball program
By RICK DAWSON Staff Writer

MATTOON n- Lake Land’s softball program is establishing a Chicagoland recruiting base, but Denny Throneburg is also laying groundwork for the future by looking much closer to home.
A trio of Mattoon players highlights Lake Land’s 2007 softball recruiting class. Jenna Bradley, Megan Glosser and Lauren Covington gave Throneburg verbal commitments late last year and are in the process of signing letters of intent.
The NJCAA spring softball signing period arrived on Jan. 15, but in an effort to increase oversight of its member schools’ recruiting activities, the NJCAA has required each college to submit letter of intent forms online, an action that has slowed the signing process.

MATTOON n- Helping starting a junior college softball program to begin play this coming fall, Nic Nelson’s recruiting began years ago with Hannah Dow.
“I’ve seen Hannah play since she was in seventh grade,” Nelson said of the current Mattoon High School senior. “I’ve seen her as an opponent and I’ve seen her on my team when we went to Australia. In every case she was very enjoyable to watch.
“You cannot find an athlete with more class and style than Hannah Dow.”
Congratulations

Mattoon Pride Girls Fastpitch is located in Mattoon, Illinois.
Our purpose and mission is to give the girls instructional guidance and experience in playing fastpitch softball at the highest level of competition possible. In order to do this, The Pride sends its teams to tournaments in, and out of, the state of Illinois.
This is where the competition is, and this is where we must go to develop girls
who want to play in high school or prepare for college.
The emphasis is always on sportsmanship, character, and fun, over winning.
We are a private, IRS-certified, non-profit organization that receives no financial aid or support from local or federal governments. We gladly accept tax-deductible donations.
Mattoon has a rich history in girl's fastpitch softball and is repeatedly commended for sportsmanship and conduct on and off the field and being able to compete with the best. This is not achieved easily and the coaches and players are commended for this. The coaches and girls are very proud of their reputation and high standards.
During the 2004 season we had over 90 girls (ages 10 - 18) playing on our seven summer teams. We look forward to another successful year in 2006.
Mattoon Pride Girls' Fastpitch is registered with ASA, NSA, and USSSA.
