Darla Bonic was an avid girls’ softball fan. She was struck by ALS and passed away in 2010. Even through her sickness, Darla longed to go watch the Mattoon Greenwave and the Mattoon Pride play softball. In fact, watching softball was the thing that gave her the most joy and happiness during the most difficult time of her illness. Anyone who knew Darla would have to agree that there wasn't a bigger girls’ softball fan.

Because softball provided Darla with so much comfort during her illness, her husband, Mike Bonic, wanted to honor his wife and the game of softball by setting up a scholarship in her name.  Mattoon Pride softball makes a contribution to this scholarship fund annually in memory of a wonderful fan and friend.
